Eurail and InterRail Pass travelers - Greece

As you’re probably aware Greece is experiencing a difficult period right now, which may cause disruption in terms of travel up and down the country. The international trains to and from Turkey, Bulgaria and Rumania have been temporarily suspended but Eurail and InterRail Pass holders can still access Greece via the shipping port of Patras by making use of the ferry services of Minoan Lines and Attica Group/Superfast from Italy.

Patras is still linked with Athens on a regular basis according to the train timetable of Greek railway company TRAINOSE and Pass holders can make use of these, and all domestic TRAINOSE, services free of charge.
 
Furthermore, commencing 01 January 2012, Eurail and InterRail Passholders can make use, at a discounted price, of the international daily bus connection between Thessaloniki – Blagoevgrad – Sofia – Plovdiv operated by TRAINOSE coaches in cooperation with Bulgarian bus company Metropolitan Transport Tourism (MTT).

One way and return tickets for this service can be bought in Greece at the central railway Station in Thessaloniki or at the Central Bus Station Booking Desk 3 in Sofia.
