Train information

Train types: InterCity (IC); Railcar (commuter trains), reservations are not required.
The Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) is a north-south line connecting suburban
communities to Dublin’s city centre.
Bikes are allowed on most IC trains. Please check the ‘More Information’ section of the Irish Rail website for further details.
Ferries, ships, buses… everything but train
Bus lines are widely spread over the island, check: www.buseireann.ie for timetables, and travel passes. There are several ferries to/from Scotland (Stanraer), Wales (Pembroke, Fishguard & Holyhead), England (Birkenhead), France (Cherbourg & Roscoff).
Food and drink
Eat Irish Stew (lamb and vegetable stew traditionally served with soda bread); Champ (famous potato dish); and indulge yourself with an Irish Breakfast before leaving.
Irish beer is a must: try the local ales starting with Guinness, a world-class superstar.
Accommodation
Youth hostels can be found in even the most ‘off the beaten track’ locations.

Hotels and Bed & Breakfasts are everywhere (especially in seaside towns). You can expect the rooms in B&Bs to be of a very high standard.
