Train information
The national railway company is Slovenske Železnice (SŽ): www.slo-zeleznice.si
Train types: EuroNight (EN) and InterCitySlovenija (ICS), reservations are required; EuroCity (EC),InterCity (IC), reservations are recommended; MV (interregional trains), regionalni vlaki (RG, regional trains) and primestni vlaki (LP, local trains), reservations are not required.
Bikes are allowed on IC, MV and RG trains upon purchase of a special bike ticket.
Ferries, ships, buses… everything but train
Bus services cover the country, check timetables at the local bus stations (avtobusna postaja) or at
www.ap-ljubljana.si; book seats in advance for the weekends.
Food and drink
Eat Ćevapčići and Pljeskavica or Paprikas (grilled meat is rarely missing from Slovenian tables!). Typical dishes like Zlikrofi (similar to ravioli) and Brodet are also popular (fish soup). Local bread and desserts are highly recommended; Gibanica is particularly good (rich cake).

Accommodation
Private rooms are a smart choice in Slovenia, especially if you can find a bed in one of the many farmhouses that accept guests.

There are wide-spread offers for hotels and pensions (gostišča) to cater for every budget. Reserve in advance for the summer months.
